The National Society of Collegiate Scholars is a nationwide organization. We rely on advisors across our various chapters to advise students and serve as leaders in scholarship and community service. Each year, we select a Chapter Advisor of the Year from each of our four regions. In 2021, we are proud to present our Region 1 Chapter Advisor of the Year Award to Ms. Nisrene Smith of Strayer University.
Ms. Smith has been serving as an NSCS chapter advisor for over 5 years, and her dedication to the society and its members is truly admirable. Students at Strayer University know her for being incredibly positive, uplifting, and supportive — qualities that were truly appreciated over this past, very challenging year that brought so many changes to college campuses.
When her students have questions, Ms. Smith does her best to respond quickly and thoroughly. She draws on her own experience to advise and educate students. This is a quality we hope she passes on to her advisees. After all, we can all learn something from the experiences of others.
Ms. Smith was nominated for this award by Elizabeth Hatfield, who cited her strong leadership as the reason for her nomination. Like other recipients of the Regional Chapter Advisor Awards, Ms. Smith was awarded a $150 professional stipend. She was also invited to attend our online Leadership Excellence and Advisor Development (LEAD) online certification course. This course helps participants further hone their already exceptional leadership skills so they can continue to organize and support our members.
We thank Ms. Nisrene Smith for her 5 years of service as an NSCS Chapter Advisor, and we look forward to many more years of her positive, upbeat attitude and uplifting spirit.
