NSCS is proud to announce the winner of the 2021 Laura Taddeucci Downs National Advisor of the Year Award: Dr. Pamala Heard. Each year, this award is presented to a national advisor who goes above and beyond for their students and advisees. The recipient is someone who embodies NSCS Three Pillars of scholarship, leadership, and service while helping others to do the same.

Dr. Heard is currently the Director of Honors Student Services and Activities at Jackson State University. She has also been the NSCS chapter advisor at Jackson State for over 6 years. Throughout her tenure as a chapter advisor, Dr. Heard has connected with hundreds of students, and she has also been very active in the surrounding community. She was instrumental in pioneering NSCS’ partnership with the Alzheimer’s Association. Her ongoing involvement with the organization shows her true dedication to service.

With the 2020-2021 academic year bringing on some new and unique challenges, Dr. Heard truly rose to the occasion. In spring of 2021, she helped the officers coordinate a fantastic online induction ceremony for new NSCS members. This was a lovely way to welcome members and show them how effective people can be when they work together towards a common goal.

We are truly honored to present this year’s Laura Taddeucci Downs National Advisor of the Year Award to Dr. Pamala Heard. In the words of Jamee McAdoo, the President of Jackson State University’s NSCS Chapter, “Through it all, Dr. Heard was consistently organized, goal-oriented, and encouraging… I can attest to the support and leadership she offers and whole-heartedly believe that she is more than deserving of recognition.” With Dr. Heard’s continued leadership, we know many NSCS members will come to embody these same characteristics, which will serve them and their communities well.
