NSCS is proud to announce Ms. Jenn Cook from Western Washington University as one of the NSCS Region 3 Advisors of the Year. NSCS chapter advisors play a critical role in the ongoing operation and success of NSCS chapters. With 300+ chapters across four regions and 50 states, this award puts Ms. Cook in rare company.

“We know ‘the great resignation’ has had an impact on college campuses over the past 24 months which makes the dedication these advisors have shown to supporting student success so impressive,” said NSCS Executive Director Scott Mobley. “As higher education professionals, they are committed to ensuring students have access to the resources they need as they pursue their college dreams. They are also great role models for members to learn how to give back to society. NSCS is and will forever be grateful to these individuals for both their personal and professional service to our chapters.”

Jenn has been so helpful and approachable to the chapter officers and they are very appreciative of the hard work she has put in to making the officer group so cohesive. She is working with almost a completely new officer board and has made the transition easier for all of the new officers. The group had a late start, but Jenn was persistent in reaching out to students in order to create the current officer board. At least one officer noted that she will forever be grateful for Jenn’s persistence as she is now in her first club-leadership position which she didn’t think was possible. Jenn was also instrumental with member recruitment by sending email invitations to prospective members on behalf of the chapter and NSCS.

“Jenn has been so helpful and approachable with almost a completely new officer board,” said Nina Allen, secretary of the WWU chapter. “Being a Club Activities Manager, Jenn has many clubs to oversee so for her to take on a larger role within our club has been a tremendous help! Jenn has done a great job of being available for meetings with Milla, WWU’s chapter President, and Kealani, WWU’s Chapter Operations Manager. In meetings between the three of them, Jenn answers all of Milla’s questions as she is new to the officer role as a President. Milla also forwards the questions of the rest of us officers in these meetings with Jenn to which she has an answer majority of the time. And when Jenn doesn’t have all of the answers, she can refer to Kealani or she’ll get in contact with someone who knows more on the specific subject. Overall, Jenn has made the transition easier for all of us new officers, myself included, as she has taken the ropes despite not having experienced a role similar to the Advisor in another club. All of the WWU NSCS officers greatly appreciate all of the hard work Jenn has put into making this group as cohesive as possible following a COVID-19 plagued year. Admittedly, we had a late start as an officer group, but Jenn was persistent in reaching out to students in order to create our current officer board. I will forever be grateful for Jenn’s persistence as I am now in my first club-leadership position which I didn’t think I’d ever had experience in.”
